Subject: diald-top v2.0 on sunsite -- top-like listing of network packets Newsgroups: comp.os.linux.announce Cc: linux-diald@vger.rutgers.edu Followup-to: comp.os.linux.networking Organization: Beirdo's Home Computer Summary: Keywords: Since the release of diald-top-1.1, I have spent some time extending the capabilities of diald-top to allow a network client-server relationship to ve in place with the server running on the machine that is running diald, and the clients being elsewhere on the network and communicating to the server via TCP/IP on port 1313. This allows the server to be run by anyone that would have access priviledges to run diald-top locally. Authentication of the remote user is done via identd, and a configuration file is used that indicates what userids get full access (i.e. can send diald commands) by giving the userid, IP address and netmask (to easily allow access to entire networks). Currently the address and netmask must be in numeric format. I also fixed the bug that was causing segfaults in v1.1 when a non-resolvable IP was encountered. Slight oversight... Sorry. The patches incorporated into version 2.0 were contributed by: - Steffen Ullrich Wed, 10 Sep 1997 15:24:21 +0200 - use of select rather than timeouts - added -L command line argument to log the monitor data to a file with timestamps to aid in debugging - fixed some local allocation problems Since some people may not have Flex or Bison installed, I have included the generated code in the archive, along with a prebuilt ELF binary dynamically linked with ncurses-1.9.9e and libresolv.so.4. Enjoy. NOTE: This may NOT compile with earlier versions of ncurses. Please send any comments, bug reports or patches to: gjhurlbu@beirdo.ott.uplink.on.ca The LSM entry follows: Begin3 Title: diald-top Version: 2.0 Entered-date: 28SEP97 Description: Maintains a 'top'-like listing of all packets and their time to live for use with diald (tested with version 0.16). Requires ncurses, flex, bison to compile, and uses named pipes for communication. Since v1.1: Incorporated patches contributed by: Steffen Ullrich Added capability to run as a client on a remote networked machine. Added a network server that runs on the machine running diald. Now uses non-blocking I/O on the monitor FIFO, and uses select rather than timeouts to choose between the keyboard and the FIFO as input streams. Fixed the help screen to fit on normal sized screens as the development was done with a 50 line screen. Fixed the nasty segfault bug in v1.1.
